I, Description:
Its working principle is based on atomization and instant drying. Liquid material is pumped to the top of the tower, where it is dispersed into fine droplets at the micron level by an atomizer (typically centrifugal, pressure-type, or air-stream type), significantly increasing the specific surface area. Meanwhile, hot air enters the drying tower through a distributor and comes into rapid, thorough contact with the atomized droplets, causing moisture to evaporate quickly (drying time ranges from several seconds to tens of seconds). As the droplets fall, they form dry solid powder, which is ultimately collected at the bottom of the tower and in a cyclone separator. The exhaust gas is filtered and then discharged.
II, Advantages:
Fast drying speed: completes drying instantly with low material temperature (typically ≤80°C), making it especially suitable for heat-sensitive and easily oxidized materials, effectively preserving active ingredients, color, and aroma.
Excellent product quality: The resulting product is spherical or nearly spherical, with uniform particle size, good flowability, high solubility, and requires no additional grinding process.
Flexible and controllable operation: By adjusting the atomization speed, inlet air temperature, and feed rate, product particle size and final moisture content can be precisely controlled to meet various process requirements.
However, the thermal efficiency of this equipment (approximately 50%–60%) is relatively lower than that of conductive dryers, resulting in higher energy consumption, as well as a large equipment footprint and high investment costs. Spray dryers are an efficient method for liquid-to-solid conversion and are widely used in the refined drying of products such as milk powder, instant coffee, traditional Chinese medicine extracts, dyes, and precursors for battery cathode materials.
