A spray dryer is a continuous drying device that directly converts liquid materials into powder or granules, suitable for drying solutions, emulsions, suspensions, and paste-like substances. Its operation mainly consists of three stages: atomization, drying, and separation. The feed liquid is pumped to the atomizer, where it is dispersed into fine droplets measuring tens of micrometers in diameter using pressure, centrifugal, or air-flow atomizers, significantly increasing the material's surface area. Meanwhile, filtered and heated air is introduced into the drying tower via a hot air distributor, contacting the droplets in parallel, counter-current, or mixed flow patterns. Upon contact with the hot air, moisture on the droplet surfaces rapidly evaporates, typically completing the drying process within seconds to tens of seconds. During most of this time, the material temperature remains close to the wet-bulb temperature, making the process particularly suitable for heat-sensitive materials. The dried powder settles at the bottom of the tower and is discharged, while exhaust gas carrying fine particles is collected through cyclone separators and bag filters before being released, thus enabling continuous production from liquid to powder.
